Take Me, I'm Yours

I'm imagining that I'm writing a novel and somewhere within there's a scene that takes place in Leeds or maybe Manchester. It's the mid to late 80s, a rainy Thursday night at a small local theatre where The Wedding Present are playing late into the evening,

Jewish volunteers from the Eretz Israel in service with the British Army during the Second World War. Thousands of Jews in British Mandatory Palestine volunteered for service in Her Majesty's armed forces in the fight against the Nazis.

Throughout the course of the war, Jewish soldiers from Eretz Yisrael saw action both in the Middle East and later in Europe as part of the British Army's Jewish Brigade.

The Palmach: 75th Anniversay

75 years ago the Palmach was born. The Palmach was the elite strike force of the Haganah. These brave warriors played a most crucial role in the defense of our Jewish homeland and independence as a nation.

Many members of the Palmach and Haganah also served as soldiers in the Jewish Brigade of the British Army during the Second World War, as well as in many dangerous missions with the Special Operations Executive. Following the war, many Palmachnikim would go on to form the backbone of the IDF. Today we commemorate this anniversary in honour of those who sacrificed and helped build and defend our nation. We salute you.

פלברה אחת, שלוש

A new behind the scenes book is just being released about one of the most fabled units in the IDF, the Shayetet 13 naval commandos. The book, Palavra One Three is written anonymously and details some of the many incredible never before heard stories from the unit. Ranging from humorous accounts to the highly dangerous confidential missions carried out by the Shayetet, this is certainly a book I am very much looking forward to reading.

Herev Battalion: 1948-2015

All I can say is that I very much hope the IDF will reconsider its recent decision to disband the Herev Battalion. If the need to integrate was so important, then units such as Netzah Yehuda would not continue to be given such special treatment from the army.

The Druze community in Israel has served valiantly since 1948 and have often paid the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of this country we hold dear. They deserve to have their unique voice and contribution to Israel's security recognized. While many Druzim do in fact want to make a full integration into the IDF, they do not want to see a discontinuation of the Herev legacy. A legacy that is long and proud.

Mayor Nir Barkat: Gibor

While the unfortunate reality is that the city of Jerusalem has become accustomed to random acts of terror over the years. However, it's not everyday that a terrorist attack unfolds just as the mayor of Jerusalem is passing by. But this is exactly what happened today.

While Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat was on his way to a conference with his security detail, they happened to pass by right at the moment where a terror attack was unfolding. A Palestinian terrorist had just attacked and stabbed a young Haredi Jew near Kikar Tzahal in central Jerusalem. In an incredible act of braveness, Mayor Barkat took direct action himself and subdued the terrorist, along with assistance from his security team. You can see Barkat in the white shirt take down the knife wielding terrorist in this video that was shot from a nearby security camera.
