Hours after PM Benjamin Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Galant for the "crime" of speaking out against the clear dangers to Israel's security in the face of the coalition's unrelenting judicial overhaul advancement, hundreds of thousands of Israelis spontaneously took to the streets for an emergency protest. The message was clear. There will be no compromise over preserving Israel's democracy and that the current government's push towards autocracy will be met by popular resistance.

Tel Aviv Protests: Week 11 - 3/19/23

Israelis in Tel Aviv protest against the Netanyahul-led governing coalition's planned judicial reforms that are being advanced in the Knesset. For the eleventh week in a row, hundreds of thousands of Israelis have joined protests across the country calling on the government to preserve democracy halt the reforms, which have torn apart Israeli society.

Yamam in Jenin - 3/8/23

Israeli counter terror forces from Yamam engage with Palestinian terror suspects today in Jenin in a screenshot released from helmet cam footage. The operation resulted in the deaths of six Palestinian gunmen including the perpetrator of the Huwara terror attack that killed Israel brothers Hallel and Yagel Yaniv. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu heaped praise on the fighters who “eliminated the despicable terrorist who murdered the two brothers in cold blood.” Netanyahu added that this was proof that “whoever harms us, on his own head be it.”

New IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi is pictured with outgoing Ramatkal Aviv Kochavi during today's command change ceremony. Halevi, the former Deputy Chief of Staff, was sworn in as the IDF's 23rd Chief of Staff. 

Aviv Kochavi concludes an illustrious 40 years of IDF service. Halevi meanwhile will take reins of Israel's military as the country's top soldier. He will prioritize combating the Iranian threat as well as the tense Palestinian front. Equally important will be his ability to ensure that the IDF remains an apolitical institution and clear of the increasing attempts at politicization, led by certain right wing MKs, that have crept in. Halevi so far has made it clear that any attempts to alter the command structure of the IDF will be met with resistance and not be tolerated. He emphasized that the Chief of Staff shall only report to Israel's Defense Minister. These are the same statement echoed by his immediate predecessor, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi.

Israeli counter-terror forces prepare for operations in the wake of two deadly bombings earlier this morning in Jerusalem. The remotely detonated bombs occurred just at the peak of morning rush hour, first at a bus stop in Givat Shaul at around 7 am, and then a second blast at another bus stop in the Ramot Junction at approximately 7:30 am. Aryeh Schupak, a 16 year old Israeli-Canadian citizen, was tragically killed. Scores of others were wounded.

Palestinian attacks against Israeli civilians and military personnel have continued in recent days. Earlier this evening, gunfire was directed on the road between the Israeli settlement of Itamar and the IDF's Samaria regional brigade base just nearby. Ukrainian soldiers arrest a suspect Russian spy just outside of the town of Lyman in Eastern Ukraine. Since the beginning of this week swarms of untrained Russian conscripts have been hastily sent to Ukraine in an attempt to reverse the Russian military's losses. Meanwhile, the public outcry in Russia over Putin's mobilization orders has led to protests and examples of civil dissent, particularly in Dagestan and other provinces. Thousands of Russian men of military age have made for the borders in an attempt to avoid being drafted into the war and sent to Ukraine.

Ukrainian soldiers display a flag on a rooftop in Kupiansk following the liberation of the city and its surrounding area. In recent days Ukrainian forces in the northeast of the country have launched a stunning and successful counter offensive to take back control of numerous cities and towns that were previously under Russian military occupation. The Russian frontline in the northeast has more less crumbled. Multiple independent videos have showed Russian units fleeing in mass and have confirmed that Ukrainian forces are now once more in control of many key areas. 

Today the eastern city of Izium, an important railway hub, was liberated. Ukrainian soldiers continue to make major advances in the east, in particular around the vicinity of Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city.
