Tel Aviv beach one year after the State of Israel's independence.
I personally love this photo. There's a certain restlessness that's so visible and apparent. When I see her attire and the heavy coat she's wearing, which is not exactly suitable for lounging at the beach, it reminds me how so many new Israelis, my family included, had left Europe to return to our homeland yet nonetheless often felt alien and out of place in the Levant. This photo was also used on the cover of Linda Grant's novel When We Lived in Modern Times.
